Arizona to Wisconsin - Day 5

We arrived at the next stop late last night in Jackson, MN, after 478 miles and an extended stop in Sioux Falls.

Trip Stats Day 4

As we drove from the "Valley of the Sun" to Northern Arizona and to the east slope of the Rockies, we've seen many vegetation and land changes. Driving out of the Black Hills, down to the plains, near the Badlands of South Dakota, was no different. We noticed a big difference after crossing the Missouri River, and then into Minnesota. As we move further and further east, things get greener.

My wife's friend was visiting her parents in Sioux Falls from Arizona. When they discovered the convenient timing, she invited us for dinner and my wife planned a stop for us. It was a welcome distraction from the driving.

Shortly after leaving Sioux Falls, we entered Minnesota...

Welcome to Minnesota

...and ran into a slight delay. It seems a small cattle hauler, the kind attached to the back of a pick-up truck, lost a door or one came open: 2 cattle laying in the road and 2 or 3 more trying to hide along the side of the road. The sheriff's department and state patrol were trying to clean things up. I would call this a freak accident, as I've never seen anything like it. I bet, though, it's not the first time it's happened, nor will it be the last.

In a trip like this, I expected to run into more roadside accidents. I think we're fortunate to have only seen this one and the slight fender bender that cause our delay in Colorado.

After a long day driving, we arrived at our stop for the night. My eldest son was playing a video game, recently returned after being confiscated for an altercation with his brother earlier in the day. He was sitting at the dinette in the RV when the leg fell off. It seems the screws ripped right out of the leg and I will not bother to speculate how (kids). What was interesting about the event was the way my son handled the situation. While playing the video game with one hand, he called to his mom and handed her the leg with the other. This particular game must be particularly engaging, because it's not the first time he's multi-tasked this way.

In an hour, we'll be off to our final destination near Milwaukee, WI. We get four days off from the driving before starting the trek home.
